Interview of Cricket Fans – 147
J – Thank you for your participation in this interview, firstly tell us a bit about yourself as a cricket fan.
As a cricket fan, I support two teams – RCB and India of course. And I love all the new youngsters in the game, and of course, Virat Kohli.
J – What is your earliest memory of this sport?
My earliest memory of this sport is the 2015 WC – India vs Pakistan. There was a lot of hype about the tournament in the newspapers and so I was thinking of checking out what Cricket was, as a young seven years old and I saw Virat’s century. Those were my earliest memories of Cricket, although a lot of my family members say I watched the 2011 WC final, but I don’t remember that as I was only 4.
J – Which cricketer’s story inspires you the most?
To answer that question, Chris Gayle’s story inspires me the most. He was extremely poor, but he ignored all his poverty and became the universe boss that he is.
J – Tell us a bit about your love for Kohli as you have written in your bio that he is GOAT.
See, as they say, the first impression is the best, and so, the first cricket match I remember watching was, as I said, India vs Pakistan 2015 WC. His century was great in my mind, and that is when I started liking all things, Kohli. Hence, I consider him the greatest of all.
J – And does that mean you support RCB in the IPL or do you support a different team? Also how long have you been supporting that franchise?
See, in IPL, I first supported CSK, in 2015, I still don’t know why, but then they got banned. I then thought of supporting RCB in 2016, and there’s been no turning back since then. But CSK is still my second favourite.
J – What changes do you see in terms of the way Cricket is being played in the pre-Covid era compared to post-Covid?
See, there’s a lot of changes. The main ones in my opinion being the toll on the mental health of players as a result of staying in bio-bubbles, and also the inability to use saliva to influence the ball. And also, the fact there are no fans, just makes me feel very sad considering there is no real atmosphere and everything is just a bunch of noises on.
J- How excited are you for India vs New Zealand in England – WTC final?
Very. Hopefully, we can prove to everyone that New Zealand is not unbeatable, and also that we are good in tests outside of Asia.
J – Thoughts on the new format called ‘The Hundred’ by ECB?
It looks very intriguing. Maybe this could give rise to some new power hitters considering that you can’t exactly waste a lot of balls. So I think it would help the world discover some gems.
J – Do you have an all-time XI?
AB De Villiers
