Arrogant of Australia to not come to our shores, had it been India they would have gone there without hesitation | ICF – 145 – SA

@Chorky_Seane

J – Thank you for your participation in this interview, firstly tell us your earliest memory of the sport.

My earliest memory… It has to be asking my late Dad to roll a tennis ball for me to hit straight drives with my plastic bat

J – How has Cricket played a role in your life?

I played it throughout my life, till 15… It kinda fills in the “soccer void” in a guy’s life because it’s the only sport I watch…

J – What is it like growing up in South Africa where Cricket is one of the popular sport there?

It’s good because older people actually love it and understand it. The inclusion of black people brought in interest from black people as well.

J – Faf was supposed to play his last test series which unfortunately didn’t happen, what was your reaction when Australians cancelled the tour to South Africa in February-March 2021?

It was arrogant of Australia to not come, I believe. Cancelling a series because it’s us is totally messed up because had it been India, they would’ve gone there without hesitation. I also believe that they were low on confidence because India sort of kinda embarrassed them. Maybe the fact that we 3-0ed them last year. They just didn’t have solid reasons why they didn’t come. Moreover, Biff explained that they had extensive plans in place to accommodate the Aussies and make sure that they’re protected from the virus but they still decided not to come… I mean some of their players are in India right now, where the pandemic is still a little hectic.

J – And how did you react when players like Quinton de Kock, Faf Du Plessis and a couple of others opted to play IPL instead of Pakistan?

We RARELY have Cricket played in April in South Africa and this Pakistan series was decided after the release date of the IPL. So I’m good with them going there as it gives Cricket South Africa a chance to explore the depth in our talent pool.

J – Name three players that the board of South Africa should put extra focus on while grooming them.

Wiaan Mulder
Kyle Verreyne
Keegan Pieterson

J – Few words on the South-Africa vs India rivalry?

The rivalry still exists. There are a lot of bragging rights that come with beating India and winning a test series in South Africa.

J – Just like India entered the 2007 T20 World Cup in SA without being favourites and went on to win the cup, can SA replicate that in India for the 2021 T20 World Cup?

With the right combinations, we can beat any team.

J – Instead of an all-time XI, let me ask you the current best XI that SA can put up in all three formats of the game.
