Interview of Cricket Fans – 76

Have you been to a stadium to watch an international cricket match live? If yes, share your experience.

I’ve never been to a stadium to watch an international match live. I belong from a small district from Madhya Pradesh so it becomes quite different too. But I am definitely going to watch next IPL games and upcoming t20wc games which happening in India.

Share your memories of each of the ICC event India won in the past 13 years.

As you mentioned past 13 years, Starting from 2007 T20 WC, it was a proper gem of a tournament and I must say, the toughest WC we won after 1983. Everyone was spot on, Yuvraj’s marvellous batting display against Australia, England and few more good innings, Rohit’s contribution which probably went under shadow but he played some good knocks under pressure.

2011 World Cup was something else, Sachin’s last and undoubtedly the WC which gave us a lot to cheer about. The enthusiasm I had from the first game was something unreal, and our men in blue never disappointed. Again Yuvraj Singh, undoubtedly the greatest match-winner India ever produced or must say one of the top white-ball cricketer world has ever seen. He just gave his 110% to make us Proud. Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan, Gambhir, Virat, then Dhoni.. that was the dream team we ever had I must say. I just can’t forget that moment, to be honest. Doesn’t matter what I am doing, If someone plays WC 2011 final video, I will just get lost in the TV.

Champions trophy 2013 played a major role in building the new Indian side. With legends like Sachin, Sehwag, Zaheer saying goodbye, we needed momentum to gear up building a new young Indian side, the era of Rohit, Virat & Dhawan has started. And we all know, what they have achieved and gave us after that. I just loved each and every moment of CT13, Aswhin’s majestic spell in final, Dhoni jumping from behind after victory… Joy everywhere. The best feeling.

After 2013CT, we’ve been unlucky in ICC events, we got strong teams in 2014 T20WC, ’17 CT, ’19 WC but couldn’t cross the line. But I believe, We are gonna win at least one of T20 WC’s which are next right away. My best wishes are always with team India.

Who is your favourite Indian cricketer? And why?

My Favourite Indian cricket is Virender Sehwag. He just changed the way of batting for me, I still remember skipping school to watch him bat, and mostly in the powerplay, his strike rate is a proper example of why he was beast in his time. Test stats are amazing as well, supported Delhi Daredevils when he used to play for them. Actually, Viru was a player who played cricket like adventure, joy & fun. Same applies for AB de Villiers which is my second Favourite after him.

Ps – I can pay anything to watch Viru play the flick shot.

India has been blessed with many stalwarts who have been given a lot of appreciation for their hard work, who, according to you, are those underrated stalwarts who haven’t got much appreciation than they deserved?

I am almost a 2000 kid so for me, Ajit Agarkar must be respected and should get more n more appreciation from fans because he gave us a lot of things to cheer about. Later, Gautam Gambhir & Suresh Raina. Two of the pillars. I know Raina will forever be under shadow but he was so complete cricketer and helped us to win many games with his top batting & cheetah level fielding. Gautam must be appreciated for whatever he has done. He played major roles in Winning two of WC’s to us. So my three stalwarts are – Agarkar, Raina & GG.

India vs Pakistan, India vs Australia, India vs England, out of these three, which contest do you enjoy watching the most? And why? Also, mention your favourite match.

India vs Pakistan, hands down. Undoubtedly THE MOST EXCITING RIVALRY IN THE CRICKETING WORLD. First of all, the atmosphere of both countries, banters, jokes everything becomes extremely hot.

96 WC QF. Where Prasad destroyed Sohail. Probably the best match ever of INDIA vs PAK.

Your favourite team in the IPL and a few words on that team?

My favourite team in IPL is RCB. The team is quite good now, just need a few good Indian batsmen. This 2020 auction was good and we made an impressive and balanced team. Just one good Indian batsman after VIRAT & ABD and I believe the fortunes of RCB will change. Wishing that next auctions will bring more balance in the team and trophy for sure. Insha’Allah.

As a fan, do you enjoy when a bowler sledges the batsman or when a batsman sledges the bowler?

Bowler sledging the Batsman will forever be a treat to watch. Ahh. Great feeling. A long size bowler coming with the red cherry in his hand, scary eyes, bowling at right spot, getting movement, having a chat with the batsman and boom. Cracker inswinger and clean bowled.

This is Gold. I love it when bowlers do sledge, like KG and Starc, Hazelwood does. But ICC is now harsh with bowlers, KG got banned for sledging in recent times, this should not happening if we want to see some cracking banters between Batsman & bowler.
