Interview of Cricket Fans – 71

Thank you for your participation in this interview, what are your early memories of this sport?

I think MI vs CSK 2010 Final. I didn’t watch the full game but saw Raina hitting sixes, if I remember correctly.

And is that what made you fall in love with Cricket?

I am not sure what made me like cricket. But my uncle used to watch it. So, sometimes I did too. But yeah Sehwag was my favourite then. So, he attracted me to watch cricket… I used to play cricket before watching it. Liked playing it but not watching.

Have you been to a stadium to watch an international match?

Unfortunately, no. I planned to go for the 2nd ODI between IND and SA, Lucknow. Lucknow is near my town. So, I planned to go there but the game was cancelled due to Corona Virus. Hopefully, someday soon.

If you had a chance to watch a match there, which opponent would you prefer watching and why?

India vs Pakistan
India vs Australia
India vs England

Any India match, especially involving Kohli.

Among these three, India vs Australia. Because of the quality of cricket.

Share your memories of each ICC event India won in the last 13 years.

2007 WT20, I didn’t watch.

2011 WC, I was so happy. I didn’t know it’s importance then. But now I feel how great it was. Sehwag’s starts and Zaheer’s bowling were favourite. Especially 175 vs BAN.

IND vs PAK semi-final was also the first match I watched without missing a ball.

2013 CT, I didn’t watch the watch finals again. Because of the rain, so, I couldn’t watch it enough. But followed it enough.

How do you see Indian Cricket at the present scenario?

One of the best teams without a doubt. Great batsmen, great bowlers. It’s just that the selection can be better. Enough quality players to dominate across formats for a long time.

Which young Indian cricketer are you looking forward to the most?

Gill, Pant and Shaw. Pant and Shaw are attacking so really like them. Gill is skilled as well. So, yeah, all of them. Unfortunately, none of them had a great time in IPL 2020. But, I still believe in their skills.

Your thoughts on this year’s IPL?

The decks surprised me. I thought they would go really slow at the end but they were fine. Teams could have been better with selections though, except for MI maybe.

MI, the best performing team, deservingly won the cup. So, yeah, that was good too.

Would have liked a better performance from RCB in the last 5 games.

Also, worked a lot during the IPL. I am not a working guy yet. So, it was a great experience for the first time.

Has IPL has brought a divide amongst the fans of modern Indian stalwarts?

To be honest, I don’t think so. It is not due to IPL. It is due to social media, the Internet.

You also see Sachin vs Dravid fan-wars.

So, it is due to a social platform, not due to IPL.

Your IPL team of this year?

Shikhar Dhawan
Mayank Agarwal
Suryakumar Yadav
Ishan Kishan (wk)
Ab De Villiers
Hardik Pandya
JofraArcher
Rashid Khan
Yuzvendra Chahal
Trent Boult
Jasprit Bumrah

Your thoughts on the upcoming series down under?

T20: I hope they try Samson in the middle-order and play Saini.

ODI: Really interested to know who opens between Gill and Mayank.

Tests: Without Kohli, it is going to be obviously tough in the last three. I wish Kohli hits a ton in the Day-Night Test and India wins.

Bumrah should be managed well and hopefully we enjoy a great series.

Your all time XI?

Rohit Sharma
David Warner
Virat Kohli
Ab De Villiers
Ben Stokes
MS Dhoni/Jos Buttler
Shahid Afridi
Mitchell Starc
Trent Boult
Imran Tahir
Jasprit Bumrah
