“Idea was to learn and understand other’s perspective because fan’s opinions matter”
First of all, I want to wish my readers a very Happy Diwali. Hope you guys are enjoying this occasion.
This article is regarding #AskJ and I received some wonderful questions in the comment section. Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer each and every question but I tried to answer as many as possible.
Q. How do you feel after response you get from fan interviews? @ps26_11
A. I feel good. I feel really good because the way people reply in the comments section, it motivates me to continue taking such interviews and also it makes the person I am interviewing feel special too.
Q. Any video interview coming up? @Jitendr63761289
A. I wanted to have a video-based interview but unfortunately, the plan changed at the last minute. Hope I’ll do it someday in the future.
Q. How does it feel to know other’s feeling? @marvelousmukesh
A. It’s both – a blessing and a curse.
Q. How did the idea come to your mind to interview fans? @mealokranjan
J – The idea was to learn and one can only learn through interaction. What I meant by learning is that I wanted to understand people’s perspective or their views on certain topics. I wanted to know their story of how they came across this sport. What made them watch Cricket or Football. Because I feel fan’s opinions matter too. There are so many passionate fans on Twitter and at the end of July, I just felt I should start a blog where I will interview cricket fans from this particular platform. That’s how it started. Although the initial plan was to stop after 6 or 7 interviews, when I was getting positive responses from you guys, I felt like I should just do one more. And now I have interviewed around 70 people so it feels great.
Q. Your favourite interview till now? @anjubharatrawat
J – Interview of Johns. It’s my favourite. I wasn’t even planning to interview you him so soon (he was only my 5th guest). But after interviewing four fans, I felt I should just drop a message and try my luck. Within a second he replied and he said I am in. And I didn’t even prepare any question that evening when I asked. So he said we can do this tomorrow. Next morning I put my thinking cap on and prepared a list of questions. He answered them brilliantly and it was at that time I realised this interview would bang. Here is the link to that interview if you haven’t read it yet.
Who has been the best guest till now? @marvelousmukesh
J – Sanjay Manjrekar, without any doubt.
Q. What’s your dream holiday destination? @lifeisanelation
J – Many actually. If I have to pick one, I would select a place where one can watch northern lights, so probably in Canada or Norway.
Q. One cricketer you would love to have dinner with and what will you ask him? @vlp1994
J – There are so many, to be honest, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar but if I had to pick one then it will be MS Dhoni and I would ask him about how important following the process has been for him in his career. It’s something that he keeps advising especially the youth which is to not focus on the result but focus on the process.
Q. Who is your favourite cricketer whose name has the letter J? @kaustats
J – Jasprit Bumrah.
Q. Did you dream of becoming a cricketer as a child but life got in the way? @cricket_broken
J – I dreamt of many things and most of them were related to sports. I watched Chak De India which released around 2007 and I was like I want to become a hockey player because I got inspired. Then I also saw ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’ and I got inspired again and wanted to become a footballer too. But cricket was always a sport which was very close to me and I even went for coaching classes and played professional cricket for a short while. It was an amazing experience and learnt so much in that period. And the rest is like you said, life got in the way.
Q. Do you want India Pakistan cricket to start again? @156kph
J – I was watching a documentary a year ago. This was about Pakistan touring India in 1999. Felt like it was a completely different contest and atmosphere when these two teams played. I just think that as a cricket fan in today’s world, if you are not able to enjoy this contest between India and Pakistan properly, then we are missing out on a lot of things. While we continue to play ODI cricket, just hope we somehow get to see a test match between them.
