Interview of Cricket Fans (ICF) – 20
Cricket is a sport which is played only by few countries, but it is viewed by people around the globe. There are viewers from countries who haven’t been dominant with respect to this sport, yet there are viewers who passionately watch their team and support them whenever they play. Specially if you are an Indian, there will even be viewers from Bermuda Triangle as MS Dhoni said in an interview. My next guest is from Canada who is a huge Indian Cricket Fan and I have been fortunate enough to have a bit of chat about Cricket in this article with @ThatWittyGal
Thank you for your participation in this interview, I would like to know how did you fall in love with Cricket? Who or what inspired you to watch this sport?
Probably my Dad. He was an avid sportsman himself and played cricket, Basketball and Hockey. He was also a cricket coach for a few years. But when I moved to Canada , I lost touch with it. However, In University my Indian friends would invite me for match viewing parties. Watching matches with friends was so fun. That rekindled my interest. Now everytime my father is with me, we watch a cricket match together.
What do you think about Indian Cricket at the present scenario? Share whatever you like or dislike about Indian team.
Indian cricket is in good shape with captain Kohli – In Tests, we fight hard in away matches and we are practically invincible at home. . I still believe that we were the best team in WC but 30 min of bad cricket cost us big time.We also have Rahul Dravid working with youngsters and guiding them towards a stronger future.
Then IPL getting youngsters to groom ever so quickly and share dressing room with legends.India is having a lots of bench strength in fast bowling with Bumrah, Bhuvi, Shami, Ishant, Saini, Umesh as go to bowlers then Chahar, Avesh Khan, Rajpoot, Porel in reserves.
I do have a little concern like all fans about Indian performance in knockouts in ICC tournaments. It’s the mental nerves. We need to get past that and all will be gravy.
Who is that one Indian cricketer, in your opinion, that has changed the way Cricket has been played since 2000s? And why?
Ganguly surely deserves a mention here. He took reins after Indian Cricket was recovering from the Fixing Scandal. Secondly, Kohli for incepting a fitness culture in the team. Also the way fast bowlers are thriving under him. Who knew that one day Team India would be known for fast bowling figures and not just batting records. fast bowling culture. Also Kohli took the chasing into the next level in world cricket.
If you had the chance to watch one match live in a stadium, which venue would that be? Mention one venue from India and another venue from a different country.
India: Dharamshala Stadium
Overseas: ChristChurch Hagley’s Oval, NZ.
Beautiful venues and I would like to go sightseeing after the match
Do you think Women’s IPL (if and when it comes) will be as popular as Women’s Big Bash League?
Big Bash League is quite popular in women’s cricket. We can’t get equivalent popularity in Women’s IPL until we attract famous names from women’s International cricket like Elysse Perry, Meg Lanning, Suzie Bates.
Allysa Healy wasn’t wrong when she brought up that clashing of 2 leagues will have a counter effect on women’s cricket
Which Indian Women Cricketer do you enjoy watching the most?
I enjoy watching Smriti Mandhana especially as she is elegant, quite similar to Sanga. Shikha Pandey too, she has firepower.
In India, we have grown up watching cricket related movies like Lagaan, Iqbal and the recent one’s like MS Dhoni’s biopic, Sachin’s biopic etc. Which Women Cricketer’s biopic would you love to watch?
Jhulan Goswami, former Indian Captain, Leading International Wicket Taker , took 300 Wickets. She has won prestigious awards like Arjuna and Padma Shri. She is the highest wicket taker in Women’s One Day International cricket. Not many indian women cricketer’s hold records. Also I am interested in her upcoming biopic for a very different reason. Wink Wink.
For this final question, create two dream 11 teams, one consisting of men and the other consisting of women, that will be taking on each other? You can choose a player from any era.
Women’s odi team – Alyssa Healy, Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, Meg Lanning, Sarah Taylor,Stafanie Taylor, Elysse Perry, Poonam Yadav, Sophie Ecclestone, Jhulan Goswami, Megan Schutt
Men’s odi team -Sachin, Rohit, Kohli, Sangakkara, AB, Dhoni, Shaun Pollock, Murali, Warne, Mcgrath, Bumrah.
